*having finally dispersed the obligatory first row of the year between Zabini and Nott-the-younger, Marisa's done with her prefect duties and looking for some solitude. her things are in the compartment with Severus and the seventh year prefects, but she's not in the mood to talk school yet. the last compartment in the car looks occupied, but Marisa grins in total relief when she realises who it is that's flung across three seats.*
*sliding the door open*
Oi, Evans, budge over and give a girl some room.
*she looks up, grinning at her visitor* 'Ris! Delightful. *gestures at the clear seat opposite her* Why exactly is it you can't sit across there?
*even as Lily says this, she sits up and makes room for Marisa on the seat beside her*
Done patrol, then? Where're your things?
*smiles* Because that would be too easy.
*at Lily's question she frowns a little, settling in the seat and slouching forward with a sigh*
In the compartment three doors up with Severus and the seventh-year prefects. You can understand why I'm avoiding it like the plague, I'm sure.
*drily* I'm sure I can.
*Lily's silent a moment, remembering a spring day by the lake at the end of last term* I haven't heard from Severus at all. No Owls all hols. I don't think he's forgiven me.
*she rolls her eyes and slouches further into herself, pulling Graymaulkin out of a pocket and plopping him on the windowsill.*
What the sodding hell for? He'd be pissed if you hadn't intervened, he's pissed because you did. He's more contrary than Narcissa and more picky than Lockhart.
*mutters* It's not like he owled me all hols either.
*emits a small squeal of delight, momentarily distracted from her complaints* Hullo, the Toad!!
*Lily leans over to the window and prods him with a gentle finger* He's grown, hasn't he? *looks over at Marisa expectantly* He has.
*she slouches back next to Marisa and kicks her legs up onto the opposite bench* So...what are you taking now that you've had some time to think about your OWL marks?
*Graymaulkin winks insolently at Lily, swelling a bit when she talks about him being bigger, and slides off the windowsill onto the armrest, hunkering down in a shadow as if in wait.*
*Marisa nods and laughs, a little snide* Severus must be on the way. He knows just when to hide so he's not seen until the most inopportune moment. *she sighs* For classes I've got Potions, Transfiguration, Charms, Defence, Divination and the dreaded Three A's. You?
*bored of Rosier's attempts at conversation and sick of being stared down by Helena Willoughby, Severus leaves their compartment in search of someone he can actually talk to.*Perhaps Regulus, if Rabastan isn't with him... but he's doubtless off badgering Marisa..
*makes his way down to the end of the train car, frustrated at the lack of decent company in every compartment he's passed. Finally at the end of the row, he starts and whirls around when he hears Evans' girlish laugh from the compartment behind him.*
*shoves one hand into his pocket and raps on the window with the other, smiling slightly when Evans- and Marisa, he realizes with a raised eyebrow- turn toward the door, startled.*
*hastily puts her elbow on the armrest to hide the toad from Severus, waving him in.*
Hello there, we were wondering where you'd holed yourself up.
*puts her boots up on the seat opposite her after he passes, hunkering down into herself with a little sigh.*
*surprised by his appearance, Lily grins at Snape as he slumps down into the seat facing her*
Severus! Done subtracting points from second-year hooligans? *laughs to show she's joking, and waves Potions at him*
Have you seen this? It's amazing! The text is loads better than last term's.
*rolls her eyes, digging into her bag for a book*
Here they go again, and now I'll be out of scrutiny for at least twenty minutes...
*she's not really bothered though; she knows Lily goes through the same boredom when she gets Snape started on Ancient Runes.*
*nods curtly. he has, in fact, read almost the entire book already, and is glad to have gotten his excitement out of the way so he doesn't look as silly as Evans does getting excited over a book.*
Yes, I've nearly finished it. *smirks a little* It is much better. But then, Bargrave was hardly the same caliber Potions Master that Kendersnick is.
Oh, certainly. *she nods dismissively--this is a subject they've argued before, and it wasn't one they disagreed on in the first place* It's comprehensive, but there's a few things in the first couple of lessons I disagree with. Stirring four times after the asphodel?
*Lily's got the book open to the appropriate page, and she and Severus begin to discuss the recipe's method. this is the sort of conversation she looks forward to--the side of Severus no one seems to see*
*their repartee is interrupted minutes later when something grey and shiny hops out from behind Lily's arm and onto the windowsill*
*starts back violently as the toad appears on the sill, his expression a mask of horror and revulsion. he glares at Marisa, wide-eyed and accusing.*
It was there the whole time? Was it- *his glare becomes more stern* was it in your pocket
*caught between exasperation at his hatred for her pet and truly wanting to remove the offense so he would stay, Marisa quickly scoops him off the sill and stands, shoving him into his travel box on the rack above.*
It was not- *she sits, brushing off her robes* in my pocket, Severus, as I've told you dozens of times. I don't keep him there. And if I'd known you were coming I'd have put him away before you got here.
